In this webinar, we spoke with the Japanese Ambassador to Chile, H.E. Sone Kenko, as part of our Ambassadors Series and on the eve of the 130th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation. We analyzed bilateral trade and Japanese investment in Chile, including interest in critical minerals, hydrogen, and green ammonia from the perspective of economic security, the experience with the CPTPP, cooperation in science and technology, and opportunities in services and logistics.
We also discussed the updated vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific and the relationship between Japan and China, regarding which the Ambassador reaffirmed the commitment to dialogue and a peaceful resolution in the Taiwan Strait.
