In this digital seminar we analyzed the geopolitical and geoeconomic risks, trends and new realities affecting international trade and, in particular, maritime transport. We addressed the disruptions to global routes, the rise of protectionism and the expansion of a “parallel fleet” that weakens the rules of global maritime transport; the decarbonization of the sector and the net-zero framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), whose costs fall most heavily on distant economies and food exporters; and the opportunities for Chile as a potential supplier of future fuels —green hydrogen, methanol and ammonia—, along with the challenges of port security, infrastructure and logistics competitiveness.
The seminar opened with welcome remarks by the Ambassador of Denmark to Chile, H.E. Louise de Brass. The speakers were Brian Wessel, Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority and Chair of the Consultative Shipping Group (CSG); Rodrigo Yáñez, Secretary General of the Federation of Chilean Industry (SOFOFA); and Christian Seydewitz, Senior Vice President of Hapag-Lloyd in Chile.
