On the morning of August 19, we held the third board meeting of the Chile Pacific Foundation. The session opened with a conversation on Chile's trade policy priorities, led by Felipe Lopeandía, Director General of Bilateral Economic Affairs at Chile's Undersecretariat for International Economic Relations (SUBREI).
The meeting continued with a presentation by Scott Kennedy, Senior Adviser and Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), who addressed the current state of the relationship between China and the United States and its geopolitical and geoeconomic implications, with particular attention to the effects and challenges this scenario poses for Latin America.
Kennedy examined the recent evolution of the ties between both powers and their outlook for the years ahead, offering a reading of the tensions and realignments currently underway and of how these are redefining the opportunities and risks for Latin American economies amid growing strategic competition.
The session then turned to a review of the activities carried out by the Foundation during the June–August period, along with a presentation on ProChile's work by Natalia Arcos Pino, International Director of ProChile. The occasion also addressed preparations for the upcoming business mission to China, co-organized by the Foundation, ProChile, EY Chile, and EY China, which will focus on world-class leaders of China's innovation ecosystem.
